Southbroom Library

Southbroom Library

For many years, Southbroom had a thriving municipal library located next to the current Police Station in the village. It was well run, well supported and an important part of community life.

Unfortunately, in 2008 the Municipality decided to close our much-loved library. For a community with many retired and semi-retired residents, reading plays an important role in everyday life. The library was also widely used by families and children, so losing it simply was not an option.

A dedicated group of volunteers came together and successfully persuaded the Municipality to allow them to continue using the building and its facilities. Thanks to their determination, Southbroom Library was saved.

Today, the library is funded by the Southbroom Property Owners Association, together with generous donations and fundraising efforts. This support enables our volunteer librarians to purchase new books regularly and maintain an up-to-date collection that reflects the interests of our readers.

Most of the building’s maintenance and improvements have been funded through library donations and fundraising.

The library is run entirely by volunteer librarians, who work on a rotational basis. Visitors are always welcome whether you’re looking for your next great read, need help finding a particular book, or simply fancy a friendly chat.

Our shelves include an excellent children’s section, which is especially popular during school holidays, together with a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction to suit every age and interest. If we don’t have the book you’re looking for, our volunteers will do their very best to help you find it.

Membership is free for Southbroom residents. Whether you’re an avid reader or simply looking for a welcoming place to visit, we’d love to see you at Southbroom Library.
