Following numerous complaints received from the public, the Margate Community Service Centre control room has been revamped.

The emergency line, 10111, which has been out of commission, is now working and experienced operators will answer telephones and radio calls.

"This, in essence, was implemented to render a more efficient response to the public, so that reaction time would improve," said Supt Dawood Kader.

ACT - AGAINST CRIME TOGETHER

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH - EYES AND EARS

At a meeting of the Ward 1 Committee, Director Moodley stressed the need for the community to work together with the police if we are to reduce the unacceptable crime rate in our areas.

Our eyes and ears can be of great assistance to our reaction units - both police and armed response - if we phone in and report all suspected criminal activity.  We also need to return to being neighbourly and to ensure that our properties are not crime friendly.

Call the control room, Margate or Southbroom, and report:

>>> Unusual loiterers

>>> Strange behaviour

>>> Suspect vehicles

>>> Bush dwellers and vagrants

Ensure that your property is not a soft target and has:

>>> Good lighting

>>> Burglar prevention

>>> And that your alarm is armed

Know your neighbours and their movements:

>>> Are they in residence or away?

>>> Do they need your help?

>>> You could need theirs!
