>> POSSIBLE CLOSURE OF SOUTHBROOM LIBRARY

The Hibiscus Coast Municipality intends rationalising its library services and several facilities on the coastal strip are under threat of closure.

In our area, minutes of the relevant portfolio committee indicate that the Municipality favours the closure of the Southbroom, Marina Beach and Munster outlets with the retention only of the larger libraries situate at Port Edward and Margate.

The rationalisation plan recommends that the Southbroom facility be used as a depot for a Mobile Library that will serve the coastal and inland areas on a fixed schedule.

If you feel strongly about the service you have enjoyed over the years, please attend the consultative meeting to be held:

Friday 1 June 2007, 10h00, Southbroom Library

This is your opportunity to air your views.  Use it.

If you are an away resident that makes use of the library when you are in Southbroom, please have your proxy attend the meeting.

>> MUNICIPAL BUDGET AND RATES 2008

Both the Hibiscus Coast and UGU District Municipalities are in the process of finalising their 2008 budgets and the Mayor has held the required consultative meeting for our Ward and municipal Cluster.

Indications are that Hibiscus Coast Municipal rates will increase by 6.5% for the financial year beginning 1 July 2007.  The cost of UGU district Municipality's water will go up by 7,5%, and sanitation by 13%.
